About Us

While experiencing the emotions of burying her husband of 57 years at The Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, Cozette Merritt, the founder of Cape Canaveral Ladies, was touched by a stranger’s kindness at the graveside. An Arlington Lady, who had been standing as a silent witness nearby approached her afterwards to offer her condolences and a sympathy card that expressed the country’s grateful recognition of her husband’s service.

The Ladies

It really moved her and Cozette never forgot the woman’s kindness.

Cape Canaveral National Cemetery (CCNC) officials welcomed the idea of a similar service when she approached them in 2016, shortly after opening. With the help of a few friends, Cozette, championed the group and now it has grown to close to 50 dedicated women. We are one of only five such veteran support groups in the over 150 national cemeteries in the United States.

"Some people live an entire lifetime and wonder if they have ever made a difference in the world.
A veteran does not have that problem."
